Aligning tech to your business strategy
As ever this has been a busy week here at Atom, the main highlight was a presentation I gave to a group of startups as part of our association with the 1776 incubator and accelerator in Philadelphia.
The presentation was about aligning your technology and business strategy and in it I went through how you can use the Business Model Canvas to define your stakeholders and key activities and then build a tech strategy that supports all of those key areas within your business that add value to it. You can watch the full video here.
During the event I was asked whether it was better to build rather than buy and as ever, the answer is "it depends". I have always espoused the point of view that technology is a set of tools and as with tools there are sometimes when it makes sense to buy, to rent or to build your own tool for your own specific needs. The key is to identify where technology can help drive your business forward, whether that is in helping you open up new markets, find efficiencies within your business or to create new products and services that you can offer.
We love talking about how tech can help your business so please do get in contact if you need help in understanding how tech can help your business grow.
What's your story?
Before you can align your tech to your business, you need to know understand what your business offers and what your story is for potential customers and partners. This week's podcast guests are Gareth Dimelow and Terry Bower from Inside Stories.
Both Gary and Terry help businesses identify and shape their story, they help founders and established businesses understand how they can communicate their "why" in a way that actually describes the "why" and not the "what". Too many of us talk about what we do and how but not why we do it and the "why" is the whole reason we got into business in the first place.
In this podcast you'll learn the common mistakes that people make when pitching their business and the techniques you can use to formulate a compelling story that will engage your customers, investors and other key stakeholders
Enjoy!
